Passengers travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) are being reminded to check journey planners before travelling this festive period.

Due to Christmas markets and engineering works, services are expected to be busier than usual across the railway network.

Service changes for West Midlands Railway include:

  • An amended timetable will run between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve
  • There will be an earlier shutdown of services on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve
  • No services will run on any WMR route on Christmas Day or Boxing Day
  • Due to essential maintenance, buses will replace trains on some routes out of Birmingham New Street on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
  • A rail replacement service will be in operation between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton from 3 – 5 January

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said: “Services are expected to be very busy, so customers travelling over the festive period are encouraged to travel before Christmas Eve if possible and leave plenty of time.

“Trains may be subject to last minute changes, so I’d recommend always checking journey planners before setting out and avoid relying on late services on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve as last trains will be earlier than usual.”
