Virgin Money boss who overcame cancer takes part in London marathon for charity

A senior finance leader at Virgin Money who overcame cancer is rallying the business community to support his fundraising efforts as he takes on the London Marathon.

Gareth Jones, who leads the regional corporate banking team at Virgin Money will be taking part in the London Marathon in April to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. 

Gareth was diagnosed with lymphoma in April 2021 and was treated through chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and ultimately Car-T therapy in July 2022 which eventually cleared the cancer.

He also had to undergo an emergency surgery to deal with a bowel perforation after some chemotherapy. During this time, he was treated at Priory and Queen Elizabeth hospitals with the aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

Speaking about the upcoming marathod, Gareth said: “During my toughest times, I never thought I'd be able to do this.

“I'm incredibly grateful for my recovery and the amazing support from MacMillan.

“This is my chance to give back and help others receive the same support. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference. Thank you for your generosity”
