The University of Birmingham has appointed Steve Jordan (pictured) as the new director of Estates to lead its award-winning Estates team, bringing more than 30-years’ experience in the higher education and built environment sectors.

Steve Jordan has previously held positions at the University of Manchester, as interim chief property officer, as well as assistant director of Estates and head of Capital Projects.

With over 30 years of experience in estate development, maintenance and sustainability, Steve has successfully led the University of Manchester’s £1.5 billion Campus Masterplan and delivered state-of-the-art facilities such as the Masdar Building, the Manchester Engineering Campus, and the Whitworth Art Gallery.

As well as this, Steve developed and delivered their Zero Carbon Strategy and is committed to creating campus environments that are vibrant, accessible and sustainable.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “I am delighted to be joining the University of Birmingham as Director of Estates. It is an exciting time to be embarking on this new role, with the launch of the 2045 Campus Vision, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the University to deliver a world-class campus.”

Lee Sanders, registrar at the University of Birmingham, added: “We are delighted to welcome Steve as our new Director of Estates. Steve joins us at a key time in the development of our campus and estate. He will be taking forward the work on the campus and estate strategy, which will be important in supporting the University’s Global Top 50 ambitions and Sustainability goals. Steve brings very relevant leadership and management experience in Estates from his time at the University of Manchester, and we all look forward to working with him. I should also like to thank Peter Cochrane for his excellent work as interim director of Estates.”

The university has a wide and varied estate, consisting of three main campus sites in Edgbaston, Selly Oak, and Dubai, as well as properties in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Ansty, Coniston and Ironbridge. The university recently announced their 2045 Campus Vision, a strategic framework that will steer their estate’s development, and provide flexibility to adapt and embrace new technologies and sustainability approaches.
