Top EV manufacturer installs high-speed chargers at IT provider's site

Cord, a Birmingham based manufacturer of EV charging points, has successfully installed charging ports for Intercity Technology.

The city-based IT service provider wanted a future-proof installation that provided the fastest charging speeds without the need for a power upgrade, and to cover six parking bays.

Cord assessed their available power capacity during a site survey and determined that they could have up to six 22kW chargers on their existing supply.

To ensure their available power capacity is never exceeded, even during times when power consumption at Intercity is at full-stretch, Cord set up load-balancing across all of the chargers.

This means that at times of high-power consumption, the chargers can reduce their output to ensure the business power demands are always put first.

As part of the survey and pre-installation service, Cord also provided guidance on the location and positioning of the chargers to avoid any unnecessary installation works and expenses.

The firm installed six 22kW wall-mounted EV charging points within Intercity’s indoor head office car park.

The installation itself was able to be conducted during work hours and was done in a way that meant the business never had power cut off and the car park could stay open, with only a few parking spaces closed off at any one time.

The installation has been a smart addition to Intercity’s car park and not only allows staff to charge their cars throughout the day and allows visitors to top up their charge during their visit.

It also allows Intercity to charge any commercial vehicles overnight at a cheaper off-peak rate.

Intercity CEO Charlie Blakemore said: “Cord provided Intercity with a great service from start to finish.

“The design and installation was tailored to our EV charging needs and professionally delivered in quick time without fuss.”
