The latest youth theatre production from The Alexandra, Birmingham has been hailed a critical and commercial success after achieving its highest net box office figures, surpassing its financial target by 55 per cent.

Featuring up and coming talent from across the West Midlands and beyond, this year’s Stage Experience production of the much-loved classic The Sound of Music achieved record breaking occupancy figures with 88 per cent of tickets sold across the four performances.

The show was also one of the top 5 highest grossing productions across all of ATG Entertainment’s regional venues last week.

As well as enchanting audiences, the production proved a hit with the critics, garnering glowing praise and five-star reviews across the board.

Simon Creed, theatre director at The Alexandra, Birmingham, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled at the success of this year’s Stage Experience production. It’s testament to the talent and enthusiasm of all those involved that the show sold so well and the praise it has received from audiences and critics alike was richly deserved.

“They’ve really set the bar high for next year’s production, which will be our twentieth so something of a landmark, however we’re all looking forward to the challenge!”

Since launching in 2003, Stage Experience has helped over 2,000 local young people get their first taste of working in a theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes.

This year’s production saw the most applications ever received, with over 400 young people applying to take part on stage and behind the scenes.

After a competitive audition and interview process, 76 performers and 14 technical participants were selected to star in the show.

Applications for The Alexandra’s 2025 Stage Experience production, along with the title of the show, will be announced later on this year.

Any young people with the ambition to take part in a full-scale show on a professional stage are encouraged to apply.
