The Rep has announced three additional productions to be added to its 2024/25 season of drama, comedy, musicals and premieres.

This Autumn, The Rep will be hosting two critically acclaimed National Theatre Live productions for the Midlands, in The Studio, which is fitted with cutting-edge lighting and sound equipment as well as a cinematic quality screen.

The first production will be the multi award-winning production of Noël Coward’s provocative comedy, Present Laughter starring Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Fleabag, Vanya), to be screened on Monday 7 October with two screenings at 1pm and 7pm.

As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control.

Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for this attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soul-searching.

Filmed live from The Old Vic in London during a sold out run in 2019, Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical) directs this modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness.

The second National Theatre Live production will be Prima Facie, starring Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, The Last Duel, Help) who won both an Olivier and a Tony Award for her performance in this gripping one-woman play written by Suzie Miller.

Prima Facie will take audiences to the heart of where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game on Monday 18 November with two screenings at 1pm and 7pm.

Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning.

An unexcepted event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of law, burden of proof and morals diverge. Justin Martin (Kyoto) directs this solo tour de force, filmed live at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End during a sold out run in 2022.

Movie buffs can look forward to Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 May, when The Rep will be diving into the drama (and comedy) behind the scenes of Jaws with the Birmingham premiere of Broadway favourite, The Shark Is Broken.

Directed by Olivier Award-winner Guy Masterson, co-written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, and inspired by Ian’s father Robert Shaw’s experience playing Quint on the notorious shoot of the world’s favourite shark movie, Jaws.

The Shark Is Broken celebrates movie history and peeks at the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster.
