Tasmin’s at the top of her game
Lichfield District Council Health and Wellbeing Manager Tasmin Turner is at the top of her game – after scooping a special award to mark her work encouraging women and girls into sport.
Tasmin has won StreetGames’ Midlands Engaging Women and Girls Award after demonstrating a relentless commitment to addressing the sporting inactivity gap by building strong relationships with local women.
For numerous years Tasmin and the Active Lichfield programme have been providing inclusive, safe and fun activities through StreetGames’ Us Girls project.
Lichfield District Council recently secured investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to continue and expand the US Girls programme across the district working with women and girls from the age of 8 while the Active Lichfield and Getin2it programmes have seen a huge uplift in females accessing sport and physical activity.
Tasmin said: “I’m delighted to have been chosen to receive this award. We have done a lot of work for the project, not just in terms of providing physical activity but in also offering a safe space for women and girls and promoting healthy relationships.
“It is great to see more women and girls participating in sessions and being active as it has such a positive effect on lifestyle and mental health.”
Lichfield District Council’s Chief Executive Simon Fletcher said: “Tasmin has, and continues to do, amazing work encouraging women and girls to participate in sport.
“Her enthusiasm and determination to deliver improvements to people’s lives through physical activity is inspirational and we are very proud of her and her achievements.”
The Us Girls programme offers 8 sessions per week. Click here for more information about the programme.
