Sport 4 Life, a charity committed to empowering young individuals and providing them with the necessary skills and opportunities to overcome the challenges of unemployment, have shared the inspiring journey of one of their young people, who went from being unemployed and uncertain about their future to securing an apprenticeship and finding a path towards success.

Fresh out of college, Yasmin found herself facing unemployment, struggling to navigate the vast sea of opportunities and unsure about the next steps to take. She was eager to embark on an apprenticeship, recognising that this learning approach aligned well with their preferred style of learning.

In her pursuit of guidance and support, Yasmin reached out to the local job centre, where she was connected with Hannah (pictured), one of Sport 4 Life’s dedicated mentors. This connection marked the beginning of Yasmin’s journey with Sport 4 Life.

Yasmin also enrolled in their “Get Fit for Employment” course, a comprehensive program designed to enhance employability skills.

Throughout her engagement with Sport 4 Life, Yasmin gained valuable skills that have had a profound impact on both her personal and professional life. She developed confidence, honed their interview techniques, and learned the art of constructing an impressive CV. These newfound skills proved instrumental in securing interviews and standing out from other candidates.

Moreover, Sport 4 Life empowered them to explore volunteer opportunities, which eventually led to a rewarding traineeship experience.

Yasmin has successfully secured an apprenticeship program and has recently secured a placement, poised to embark on an exciting new chapter in their professional journey.

Yasmin said: “Sport 4 Life helped me broaden my horizons and discover new possibilities. They encouraged me to explore different options, reminding me that even if I didn’t like something, it was a valuable learning experience. With their support, I found courses online, learned how to navigate job fairs, and gained valuable knowledge about applying for opportunities. Hannah empowered me to embrace the unknown and paved the way for my journey of self-discovery.”

“For those who don’t know what they want to do right now, I would advise them to try things that they feel like they might like. It’s okay if they don’t end up liking it, it doesn’t mean it’s time wasted as they got to learn they don’t want to go into that career. Just don’t give up and I’m sure they’d be able to land a job! What’s important is to persevere and keep at it. It won’t be easy but when they do secure a job in the end, it will be worth it.”
