Solihull residents asked to have their say on food waste and recycling collections

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has announced it is asking local residents to have their say on food waste and recycling collections.

To help combat climate change and recover valuable resources from waste, the last Government issued local authorities with new guidance on how waste and recycling should be collected. 

Through these recycling reforms (Simpler Recycling), recycling will be easier as all local authorities in England will collect the same materials from every household for recycling.

In Solihull most of the materials that are required are collected through existing recycling services, but in 2026 there will be a need to introduce a weekly food waste collection service. 

To help Solihull Council do this, the team would value your thoughts and opinions about the changes. By taking part in the survey you can help the council to provide the right level of support and information needed to make it all run as smoothly as possible.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Hawkins, said: “Along with reusing and repairing items, Increasing our recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste that’s put out as rubbish is something that we can all do to help combat climate change.

“We’re asking residents to take part in our survey so that we can understand more fully how people are using the existing services and if they have any concerns about the forthcoming changes.

“By taking 10 minutes to answer the questions, you’ll be helping us to provide the right level of support and information so that everything goes as smoothly as possible.”
