Social housing firm employee set to brave the shave for charity

A charitable employee at social housing firm Trent & Dove is set to shave her long curly locks off to support those diagnosed with cancer.

After marking World Cancer Day on 4 February, Emma Hounsome (pictured), aged 32, an income officer at the Burton-based social housing association, will brave the razor in March, all in aid of The Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides free wigs to children and young people who’ve lost their hair due to cancer or other illnesses. Each wig costs around £700 to make, fit, and style, and donations fund the costs.

The charity also supports vital research into childhood cancer.

Emma said: “Many of us have been touched by cancer in some way, and sadly, it’s affecting several people close to me right now.

“Cancer can have a devastating effect on people’s lives, and I want to do something to support these people and their families while raising money for charity.”

It will be the second time Emma has been at the mercy of the razor, having shaved her hair off in 2021 and she raised £2,185.

Her first haircut in 2018 raised £570, with donations totalling £2,755 to date.

This year, she aims to raise at least £2,000 for her second head shave and is looking for donations to aid research into the devastating diagnosis.

Donations can be made by visiting Emma’s JustGiving page.
