Signed Sir Bobby Charlton shirt goes under the hammer for charity
A replica football shirt signed by the late Sir Bobby Charlton is up for grabs in a charity auction on Wednesday.
Chartered surveyors Cottons are holding their latest property auction on Wednesday – and the first lot is a special item to raise money for the charity Help Harry Help Others.
The signed, framed shirt by football legend Sir Bobby Charlton replicates the blue jersey he worse in Manchester United’s historic European Cup final victory over Benfica in 1968.
The 1968 final was played on 29 May 1968 in front of a crowd of 92,225 and an estimated European televised audience of 250 million.
The score at full time was 1-1 and the game ignited in extra time when Manchester United scored three times – two from Charlton - to become the first English club to win a European trophy.
The auctioning of this signed and boxed football shirt is to raise money for Help Harry Help Others charity, in Birmingham, which was formed in 2012.
While battling an inoperable brain tumour, Harry Mosely was inspired to make a difference to all people with brain cancer.
In just over two years, Harry organised and attended nearly 100 events to raise money for and awareness of brain cancer.
Sadly, Harry’s health took a sudden turn for the worse following brain surgery in August 2011.
On 8 October 2011, and after 14 weeks in a coma, Harry passed away peacefully at home in his mother’s arms.
The charity was founded in Harry’s memory by his mother Georgie.
The in-person and live streamed auction takes place at 1pm on Wednesday.
The venue is Avery Fields, 79 Sandon Road, Birmingham B17 8DT.
