Chamber members are being invited to lace up their running shoes in support of president Nasir Awan’s chosen charity Cure Leukaemia.

A limited number of spaces are available to run for the blood cancer charity at the forthcoming Greater Birmingham Run – Birmingham’s biggest running event which features a half-marathon and 10k course.

The run takes place on Sunday 4 May.

Funds raised by the runners will go towards funding the Birmingham-headquartered charity’s Clinical Research Nurse at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Clinical Research Nurses run clinical trials to find new and innovative treatments for blood cancer patients in Birmingham.

Dr Sarah Lawson, consultant paediatric haematologist at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “Every week, one child in Birmingham is diagnosed with blood cancer.

“By supporting Cure Leukaemia and taking part in the Great Birmingham Run will raise vital funds needed to fund the ATICUS Network and give hope to children and their families across Birmingham who receive this devastating diagnosis.”

Nasir Awan said: “Cure Leukaemia is a Birmingham-headquartered charity making a far-reaching impact which is why I chose them as the charity for my term as Chamber president.

“I would encourage any runners who are interested in taking on the Great Birmingham Run to snap up the remaining places to run for this wonderful charity.

“Every pound raised becomes ten - the charity can leverage another nine from pharmaceutical companies.”

Runners who are interested in representing Cure Leukaemia can sign up via the website.

Those who sign up to run for the charity will receive their entry plus a Cure Leukaemia Santini running shirt.

Entry is from £15, with minimum fundraising from £200.
