Rockets sign Commonwealth Games gold medal winner
City of Birmingham Rockets basketball club have signed Orlan Jackman - a star of England's Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning team - to their men's first team roster.
Jackman returns to the city a year on from helping England to gold in the 3x3 basketball tournament at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
The Rockets are set to compete in National Basketball League Division One for the first time this season and Jackman has a wealth of experience in that league, having previously represented Worthing Thunder, Team Solent Kestrels and Essex & Hertfordshire Leopards.
The London-born forward has also played in the professional British Basketball League and in high-level competition across Europe.
Rockets CEO Robert Palmer said: “Orlan brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and talent to the club, and we are very pleased to add him to our roster as we strive to put Birmingham basketball firmly back on the national map.
“Everyone will no doubt recall OJ's contribution to England's 3x3 gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games here in Birmingham.
“Now, just over 12 months later, we are elated to bring his talents to the club.
“With outstanding career stats at the top level in the UK and Europe, we recognise that we have a high level performer who will bring another proven scoring threat to the roster as we enter Division One.”
Jackman could make his debut on Saturday as the Rockets face Nottingham Hoods in the KitKing Trophy at Nechells Wellbeing Centre (7.30pm start time).
