Susie Ankrett (pictured), founder of recruitment consultancy Plum Executive and former Vice-President of the Solihull Chamber, has been appointed as Governor to the Solihull College and University Centre’s Corporation.

Susie commented: “I feel as if I have come home.  I started my career pathway as a full and part-time student at the College in the 1970’s. My career has included nearly two decades working as a manager and lecturer at the College before starting Plum Personnel in 2001 which grew into a successful and well-respected recruitment consultancy in Solihull.”

The College’s Corporation is composed of members from the local community, stakeholders, student and staff members. Working closely with the Principal, Rebecca Gater, the Corporation is responsible for approving the College’s mission statement, establishing strategy and maintaining the overall framework of policies and procedures within which the College operates.

College governors work similarly to a board’s non-executive directors and are well positioned to make truly positive contributions to students. They help the College maintain a long-term focus whilst working on shorter-term goals and plans to ensure strategic decisions impacting on the College are made in a professional, progressive and responsible way.

As a staunch advocate of equality and diversity, Susie whole-heartedly believes that everyone should have equal opportunity to shine and progress.

Each year, thousands of individuals become governors for the UK’s nearly 300 colleges, highlighting the significant impact of these roles in shaping the futures of 1.7 million students in England alone.

Susie is enthused to contribute her expertise, particularly her experience and insights from her roles with the Solihull Chamber, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and the Solihull MBC’s Forum for Supported Internships and added:  “I’m excited and motivated to be part of a vibrant and forward-looking community giving individuals the opportunity to better their chances in life through helping them discover the tools and knowledge required for the world of work or to progress to higher education.”

The College continues to be at the forefront of innovation with investment in outstanding facilities across their three campuses ensuring school leavers, apprentices, university level and adult learners can thrive in facilities unmatched in the region.
