International Synergies Limited has announced it is pleased to continue its long-standing delivery of facilitated industrial symbiosis services to businesses in Birmingham and Solihull through the UKSPF-funded Circular Economy for Birmingham and Solihull (CEBAS) project.

The project aims to deliver cost and carbon savings to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Birmingham and Solihull by improving their resource efficiency, supporting both Birmingham City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to reach their own Net Zero carbon reduction goals.

Reducing waste through CEBAS saves money and resources. The CEBAS team will help you to identify your by-products, wastes and other under-utilised resources that can be used by another organisation, either in the same condition or after reprocessing. CEBAS then facilitates introductions to potential partner companies and supports you to realise these new business opportunities.

Eligible SMEs will receive an initial consultation to identify an organisation's available resources and record current disposal, time management and energy costs. This information will be used to identify cost reduction and new revenue opportunities to support your journey towards becoming a more resource-efficient and cost-effective business.

Examples of waste streams, by-products and resources CEBAS can work with include:
 - Process waste: Metals, chemicals, oil and greases, food waste, filter cakes and sludges, textiles, process off-cuts
- Packaging waste: Pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, drums, IBCs
- Energy and water: Electricity and gas consumption, use of renewable technologies, condensate, steam, water to drain/river/treatment
- Redundant equipment and capacity: Electrical and process equipment, warehouse space, empty vehicle movements, old PCs, office furniture, meeting/conference facilities, land for development

Besides this resource matching service for waste, CEBAS can also provide a wider range of useful support including helping you create an environmental policy, general awareness training for your staff, capturing and reporting your carbon emissions and implementing a green office initiative.
