Prison and training facility to host an open morning

A training centre and prison facility is set to host businesses across the region on an open morning to learn, see and tour industry units.

The HMP Dovegate training centre, managed by Serco, is organising the open morning on 28 February from 10 am.

The event aims to show and educate local businesses about what the industrial units can offer the region and to build more local partnerships.

Participants will be able to walk round the four industrial units to understand how it works. They will also gain insight into the process of running and managing industry units on the inside of a prison and see how it operates.

Information will be provided about how Serco deals with businesses and how this can benefit in various ways.

Participants will also get a chance to know more about the work the facility is currently competing or have completed in the recent past to give an understanding of how varied the industries units can be.

Laura Gardner, industries broker and programmes manager at HMP Dovegate said: “We are really looking forward to hosting all manner of business at HMP Dovegate and developing relationships.

“We haven't hosted an event like this for a number of years and are really eager to share what we can offer, show the capabilities of our workshops and consider how this could benefit business.

“This could lead to financial saving, giving back to the community and providing the experience of employment to the men in our care.

“Skills and employment contribute significantly to rehabilitation and reducing reoffending and we are working hard to consider all manner of ways to do this whilst building links externally."
