Staff from Tamworth-based PI-KEM will be swapping shirts and ties for shorts and t-shirts, when they take part in a new fundraising festival of running that’s coming to Lichfield next month.

The PI-KEM Plodders will be one of 25 teams taking part in One More Lap for Kids’ Village, on Sunday 15 September.

The event will challenge the teams to complete as many laps of Stowe Pool as they can in 12 hours.

It’s free to join but each team member is asked to hit a £100 fundraising target, with every penny raised going to Lichfield-headquartered Kids’ Village.

The charity is seeking to raise £5m to build the first resort providing free holidays for critically ill children.

PI-KEM’s operations director, Fiona Rouse, who is also president of the Lichfield and Tamworth Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s fair to say we’re not elite athletes but we jumped at the chance to take part in One More Lap for Kids’ Village.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to work as a team away from our desks, to do something positive together and make a genuine impact to a brilliant local charity.

“So, we might only be plodding our way around the Pool, but we’ll be doing it with smile on our faces, knowing we’re supporting Kids’ Village.”

An event camp, in the shadow of Lichfield Cathedral, will pop up for the day – transforming Stowe Field into festival of running, with music, food and drink plus a free physio and ice cream for every runner.

Prizes are also up for grabs along with a few other surprises during the day.

One More Lap is being organised by another Chamber member, Ian Covey from Crowww.

He said: “Teams can have between four and six members. With each one taking their turn to walk, jog or run as many laps as they want before handing over to the next teammate.

“And however you decide to do One More Lap, it will be a fun, uplifting and unforgettable day for everyone involved.”

There are a limited number of team places still available - to find out more, email Ian on ian@onemorelap.co.uk or visit the website.
