Final preparations are being made for one of the most popular events in the district 's calendar - Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park.

The free concert, which attracts thousands of music-lovers every year, will be held on Saturday 3 September and a fantastic, varied programme has again been arranged for this special evening.

From 6pm music will be performed by The City of Lichfield Concert Band, a community wind band featuring 45 musicians of all ages from across the area playing a mixture of popular classical music, medleys, jazz, film scores and pop tunes.

The British Police Symphony Orchestra will then treat fans of the stage and silver screen to a wonderful selection of scores including Ukrainian Melody, from the 1981 movie High Pass, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 featured in the classic cartoon Tom & Jerry 's The Cat Concerto, Nessun Dorma from Turandot and Alfred Newman 's 20th Century Fox Fanfare.

Its set list, beginning at 7.30pm, also includes the Star Wars Suite, a selection from Carousel and culminates in Proms favourites Rule Britannia, by Thomas Arne, Hubert Parry 's Jerusalem and for the firework finale Elgar 's Pomp & Circumstance No 1 and Tchaikovsky 's 1812 Overture.

Bring your picnics and chairs to Beacon Park for the Proms and enjoy a wonderful evening of music in good company. Food will also be available together with a Fun Zone for children and deckchairs can be hired for the Proms at £10 each. Book deckchairs in advance online.

Councillor Andy Smith, Lichfield District Council 's cabinet member for leisure, said: “Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park is always an extremely popular event with rousing music and a fantastic atmosphere.

“It reflects the hard work of our officers and Parks Team and I 'm delighted that concert-goers remain able to enjoy it free of charge.

“I wish everyone who attends a wonderful evening and if you are able to make a contribution to our collection buckets to help cover the event 's costs, then please do so. ”

Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park would not be possible without the generous backing of local businesses that have sponsored the event through sponsorship and advertising.

Lichfield District Council wishes to thank Strongs Plastic Products, Brownhill Hayward Brown, Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad, Lichfield Chamber of Trade and Commerce, More Space 4 U, Zest Education, Prizm Solutions, Tenet Mortgage Solutions, Wilcox Refinishers, Blue Print Design, The Best of Lichfield, Keelys LLP Solicitors, Beacon Street Garage and C residential.

The council also gives thanks to Lichfield City Council and Swinfen Broun Trust for their support and county councillors Richard Cox, Janet Eagland, Colin Greatorex and David Smith who have each pledged money from their Staffordshire County Council 2022 Community Fund allocation.
