Midlands’ first Sustainability ‘UnConference’ breaks mould
West Midlands-based recruitment agency Worksmiths are backing a first-ever Sustainability ‘UnConference’ in the Midlands – breaking away from traditional conference formats.
The unconventional event aims to bring together sustainability professionals, business leaders, educators and community champions at University College Birmingham on December 17, from 10.30am to 5pm.
Organisers say the pioneering event will put participants in the driver’s seat, fostering dynamic discussions about practical sustainability solutions and ESG implementation, with traditional approaches to tackling climate change considered to be insufficient.
Founder and Sustainability Recruitment expert Beate Pesian said: “For those looking to learn how to integrate sustainability in business, for those who don’t believe the answers but are open to hearing ideas and joining in the conversation, this UnConference serves as a facilitator to the critical role each of us plays in shaping a sustainable future through better networks and practices.”
She said her vision for the landmark event was to create a platform to “empower organisations to take ownership of sustainability in a joyful, educational and inclusive way,” marking the beginning of an annual sustainability forum in the Midlands, with plans for targeted events throughout the year.
The event aims to unite the changemakers of tomorrow with the format encouraging active participation and collaborative problem-solving. Topics to be covered include energy innovation and retrofit, ESG in practice, education and skills for sustainability, circular economy and waste reduction, social equity and community engagement amongst others.
