Midland firms have been urged to sign up to a UK-Bangladesh trade mission aimed at boosting connections with women-led businesses in the textiles-apparel, handicrafts, home décor and IT sectors.

The mission to Dhaka – from September 23 to 27 - is organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with the SheTrades Bangladesh Hub host institution, Small and Medium Enterprise Foundation, as part of the UK-funded SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme

The delegation aims to help participating companies gain an in-depth knowledge of the business environment and specific market requirements to import from Bangladesh and export to the UK, including the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme.

Anjum Khan, director of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce, said the forthcoming trade mission follows a successful delegation to Pakistan in February, where businesses who took part made many connections.

“Through this journey, businesses forged strategic partnerships, unlocked new markets, and solidified their positions as industry leaders.

“The upcoming trade mission to Bangladesh, organised in partnership with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and facilitated by the UK-funded ITC SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme, aims to connect with Bangladeshi businesses, particularly those led by women, and demonstrate how to access export opportunities in the UK.

“The UK has strong economic ties with Bangladesh. It is one of the largest export destinations for Bangladeshi goods, including textiles, garments and seafood. Conversely, the UK exports machinery, pharmaceuticals, and other products to Bangladesh.

“The purpose of this trip is to provide importers from Greater Birmingham with an opportunity to meet potential new suppliers and explore the quality of products and the professionalism of businesses operating in Bangladesh.”

If you are a member of any of the divisions within the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce please contact your Relationship Manager or Anjum Khan: a.khan@birmingham-chamber.com  for further information.

Companies accepted into the programme will enjoy travel expenses (economy class), accommodation costs and meals. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, July 31 and queries should be directed to Eva Chang at ITC at echang@intracen.org
