Meal for two at Tattu up for grabs as Chamber launches latest business survey
Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) Quarterly Business Report survey for Q1 has launched, with each participant having a chance to win a meal for two and a bottle of wine at Tattu.
The report, sponsored by Birmingham City University, is the most comprehensive regular report of its kind in the city region, offering an up-to-date snapshot of the performance of the Greater Birmingham business community.
As well as gathering the usual data on key indicators such as sales, exports, investment intentions and the workforce, the survey includes questions in relation to the recent Autumn Budget and the GBCC's Sustainable Business Series.
Survey data will be collated at a national level and will feed into policy and lobbying activity for both GBCC and the British Chambers of Commerce, reaching institutions such as the Government and the Bank of England.
On average, the survey takes around five minutes to complete.
Each participant will also be entered into a prize draw to have the chance to win a meal for two and a bottle of wine at Tattu (terms and conditions apply).
Raj Kandola, GBCC director of external affairs, said: “Last quarter’s survey was the first since the Autumn Budget and it has become very clear that key announcements such as the increase in employers’ National Insurance Contributions and the rise in the National Minimum Wage are having an impact on business confidence.
“There has been a notable decline in confidence regarding turnover and profitability, while concerns about taxation hit the highest on record.
“Nevertheless, firms proved resilient to the ever-changing economic landscape more respondents reporting growth in UK and export sales than the previous quarter.
“Furthermore, recruitment intentions for the next year are predicted to remain stable, while it is reasonable to have expected firms to want to slow down hiring activity given the pressures that the budget’s measures will create.”
This quarter's QBR survey includes some questions that investigate digital skills needs within the West Midlands.
The GBCC is partnering with Netcom Training, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce to deliver a new research project: Mastering the Future with Digital Skills.
Raj continued: “It's vital that we hear from as many firms as possible so we can properly assess the impact these political and economic developments are having on the local business landscape.
“Our findings are also shared with key Government contacts at the Treasury and the Bank of England, so your response will have a direct impact on Government policy at the highest level.”
