Welcome to another episode of Future Faces: The Young Professionals Podcast, where we highlight inspiring stories of young professionals who are breaking barriers and making strides in their careers. This month, we had the privilege of hearing from Ashley Kerr, a member of Future Faces and an associate at Mills & Reeve.

Ashley's story is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and the importance of social mobility.

From his challenging school years where he had to fight for education while caring for his sick grandfather, to navigating university applications without family support, and eventually succeeding in the legal profession, Ashley's story is one of determination and resilience.

The conversation underscores the importance of social mobility and the impact of networking, mentorship, and perseverance in achieving career goals.

Ashley Kerr's journey is not just about professional success; it's about overcoming immense personal challenges. Growing up in Essex, Ashley faced a significant turning point when he moved in with his grandparents to care for his ill grandfather. This situation forced him to fight for his education, appealing to multiple secondary schools and local authorities to secure a place.

Despite the hardships, Ashley's determination never wavered. He homeschooled himself, bought textbooks, and focused on his GCSEs while caring for his grandfather. This period of his life laid the foundation for his understanding of social mobility and the importance of education.
