Leading law firm Freeths has advised Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) on its lease signing with Cognita, the parent company of Downsend School, to locate the new Downsend sixth form centre.

The centre is located in the MVDC-owned Elite House at Focal Point, Guildford Road, Leatherhead.

Launched in 2004, Cognita is a private schools’ group which owns and operates diverse yet connected schools across seventeen countries.

The business has already obtained planning permission for a refurbishment programme to launch early this year, which will see the implementation of electric vehicle charging points and other sustainability-related projects.

This transaction will allow for positive growth within the local community, whilst displaying an ongoing commitment to the local economy.

As a B Corp firm, this deal and subsequent refurbishment plans are something that closely align with Freeths own sustainability initiatives.

Freeths was recently awarded B Corp status demonstrating its dedication to complying with high standards of environmental and social impact and governance.

Partner Clive Pearce led the Freeths team with support from Senior Associate Sophie Moonshine.

Clive Pearce said: “We are delighted to have advised MVDC on this agreement, which will be instrumental in bolstering the local community and economy.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing the refurbishment plans come into fruition.”
