Law firm TLT has appointed experienced lawyer Kay Desai (pictured) as partner, bolstering its real estate practice and expanding its Birmingham office.

Kay’s appointment underscores the firm’s commitment to investing and developing its commercial real estate offering in Birmingham.

Kay joins TLT from Gowling WLG UK (LLP), where she advised on a large number of significant and complex commercial real estate deals.

She is experienced across a range of sectors including retail and leisure and specialises in large corporate occupier transactions including acquisitions, disposals and estate management of corporate spaces, from offices to warehouses, manufacturing plants to retail and leisure accommodation and everything in between.

Kay’s experience has included acting for a wide range of UK and international businesses.

Some of her recent work has included advising Young & Co’s Brewery PLC on the disposal of its tenanted pub estate comprising 53 pubs, acting for a major online furniture retailer in connection with acquiring a number of developed and pre-developed warehouses with rents in excess of £3 million and advising on the sale of a manufacturing plant for an international plant based dairy company.

At TLT, Kay will be supporting the development of the firm’s real estate practice in Birmingham and also working closely with the firm’s national real estate team.

Mark Elder, partner and head of location for Birmingham said: “2024 saw our Birmingham office go from strength-to-strength, with our head count more than doubling in 12 months and we are not stopping there.

“Kay’s appointment reflects our growth ambitions with much more forecast for 2025. Kay is a strong addition to our team and will play a valuable part in driving the growth of our real estate practice in Birmingham.”

Kay said: “TLT’s real estate practice has the expertise and know-how to support clients navigate these challenges that will permeate the market in 2025 and beyond.

“I’m excited to join TLT’s Birmingham office – it's been sometime since the city has seen a new market entrant with the firm’s energy and ambition and I’m looking forward to being part of that journey.”
