Law firm TLT has appointed former head of pensions at Mills & Reeve, Clare Grice, as partner.

Clare’s appointment brings the total number of partners in the firm’s Birmingham office to 12, supporting TLT’s strategic growth and ongoing rapid expansion in the UK’s second city.

Clare (pictured) brings over 20 years of experience advising pensions clients, with expertise in public sector pensions, strengthening the breadth and depth of TLT’s national pensions team.

Clare’s practice includes advising trustees of occupational pension schemes (Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution schemes) and employers on their pension arrangements, with a particular niche in education.

She is regarded as one of the UK’s foremost pension lawyers and has built a reputation providing a best-in-class service to clients throughout the pensions community, resulting in her being recognised as “very capable and knowledgeable” by Legal 500.

Clare joins TLT alongside senior associate, Fiona Goodman, who has over 10 years’ experience advising leading businesses and pension scheme trustees.

Partner and head of location for Birmingham Mark Elder said: “2025 is off to a strong start and we are continuing the energy and momentum that we built up throughout 2024.

“Clare’s arrival brings us to a milestone 12 partners in Birmingham and represents another important strategic move, adding another practice area to the firm’s regional expertise.”

Clare Grice added: “2025 is another big year for pensions, as the government has declared its intention to ‘unlock billions’ of investments from ‘well-funded’ DB schemes’ surpluses and consolidate ‘the fragmented pensions landscapes.’

“Clients will need support and advice as more details of the government’s plans emerge over the coming year, and I am excited to be joining TLT and supporting clients for what comes next.”
