Nominations are soon to close for 11 seats on the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce 's Chamber Council.

Chamber Council is responsible for steering the work of the GBCC policy team and meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the latest national and regional political developments, vote on priority themes, and engage in constructive dialogue regarding key Chamber Policy campaigns.

Once elected, members can serve up to three consecutive three-year teams.

During this time, members will promote and steer the work of the policy team, attend Chamber events, and share feedback from fellow Chamber members and business contacts at Chamber Council meetings.

Henrietta Brealey (pictured), GBCC chief executive said: “I would encourage members of the Birmingham division of the GBCC to not miss the opportunity to nominate themselves for a position on the Chamber Council.

“It plays a vital role in shaping and steering our policy and campaigning priorities and is a great opportunity for representatives to play an active role in giving a voice to Greater Birmingham’s businesses.

“We look forward to appointing a diverse and dynamic Council to drive forward an effective policy and engagement strategy”.

Dr Nasir Awan MBE DL, GBCC president, said: “Following on from key regional and national elections, it is a critical time for ensuring strong representation for local businesses.

“We are seeking to appoint members who can further strengthen Chamber Council’s influence and share new and innovative ideas.

“I would encourage Birmingham Chamber members who are passionate about connecting, supporting and growing the region’s businesses to consider applying.”

Those interested in applying must submit an application form - which can be accessed via the Chamber's website - by 5pm on Friday, 23 August. Applications received after this time will not be accepted.

Under the GBCC's Articles of Association, to be eligible, applicants must be a member of the Birmingham division of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and be able to demonstrate that they have been nominated by two other members of the Birmingham division.

Members of each of the nine other divisions of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce are represented on Chamber Council by an individual nominated by their executive committees.

For more information on joining your division 's executive committee, please speak to your relationship manager.

Should the number of applicants exceed the number of seats available, an election will take place from 2 to 20 September. Successful candidates will be announced soon thereafter.
