Fay Goodman, a Birmingham martial artist, composer and filmmaker, has officially released to the public a multi-award-winning documentary film along with its original soundtrack album.

The documentary ‘Lady Samurai – The Final Cut’ follows Fay’s extraordinary journey in mastering the revered Japanese art of Iaido (the way of the Samurai sword).

Produced and directed by Fay’s film company Goodmedia Ltd, the film has won more than thirty international awards including Best Female Director, Best Soundtrack and Best Inspirational Story.

Fay’s path to achieving Nanadan (7th Dan) is, she says, not only a story of skill, but one of perseverance, loss, and rising again — a testament to resilience and the spirit of ‘bushido’ (warrior way).

Beginning her passion for music at age six, Fay went on to compose at the piano before discovering the world of martial arts. These twin passions have become her ‘yin and yang’ - a harmonious balance she uses to inspire well-being, humility and longevity.

The release coincides with Fay’s return to Japan to take part in the renowned Kyoto Taikai — an annual gathering of Japan’s top martial artists.

The event will be held from May 2-5 at the Butokuden Hall, a venerated martial arts venue originally built in 1899 to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the Japanese capital’s move to Heian-kyo (Kyoto).

Fay (pictured) said: “To perform at the Kyoto Taikai is more than just an honour - it is a moment where music, movement, and meaning converge. I participate not only as a martial artist but as an advocate of harmony, truth, and compassion.”

The album ‘Lady Samurai – The Final Cut (Original Documentary Soundtrack)’ features a blend of cinematic orchestration and Eastern influences, showcasing Fay’s signature style.

The 18-track album includes contributions from world-renowned musicians, including:

•             Rick Wakeman (legendary keyboardist of Yes)

•             Andrew Powell (producer/orchestral arranger, famed for his work with Kate Bush and Cockney Rebel)

•             Gordon Giltrap (guitar virtuoso)

•             David Paton (bass guitar, vocals – Pilot)

•             Stuart Elliot (drummer – Steve Harley, Alan Parsons Project)

•             Richard Cottle (keyboards, saxophone – Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Mike Oldfield)

Fay is also launching a self-empowerment programme called Shefuay, integrating martial arts, self-protection, conflict resolution, and emotional mastery.

She said: “Rooted in traditional wisdom and modern psychological insight, Shefuay is designed to uplift individuals of all ages and backgrounds.”
