Jumbo bins installed to reduce littering

Supersized, jumbo are being trialled in Cannock Chase, in a bid to reduce littering.

The jumbo bins have been placed, by Cannock Chase Council, in high volume areas that have experienced overflowing in past due to the frequency of them being emptied.

These areas are Mount Road in Etching Hill, Bideford Way on the corner of Banbury Drive, Cannock outside the shops and Sharon Way, Hednesford, also outside the shops.

The jumbo bins will hold 240 litres of rubbish in comparison to a normal litter bin which only holds 112 litres.

Councillor Justin Johnson (pictured), portfolio leader for Environment and Climate Change said: “The jumbo bins look really smart and hold double the amount of waste than a normal litter bin.

“We know that especially when the weather is nice that people get out more, so litter bins can fill up quickly. We hope that this trial will alleviate the problem of overflowing bins which leads to litter accumulating on footpaths and roads.

“Other benefits to this trial will be to reduce the frequency of emptying, therefore reducing vehicle emissions from Council vans. They will support cleaning efficiency and generally help to improve the overall health and safety of residents. ”

If the trial is successful, more bins will be purchased by the council.
