Higher Education advice at sixth form open day

Solihull Sixth Form College will be joined by staff from four universities at its Open Day on Saturday 15 October, giving learners and carers the chance to get expert advice about post-16 courses choices.

The open day takes place from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with last entry at 2.30pm. All prospective learners must be accompanied by a carer.

Teachers and learners from all Curriculum areas will be available to talk to visitors, as well as staff from Aston, Leicester, Lancaster and Newman Universities.

The latter can give a particular steer on what subject choices support progression onto particular courses at university. With more than 70% of learners choosing to progress onto Higher Education, getting a head start in thinking about future careers and study will be helpful to those visiting the College.

Also at the open day, members of the senior leadership team will be delivering talks every hour to give students and parents an insight into what makes Solihull Sixth Form College such a popular choice for post-16 study.

Support staff and Student Council will be on hand to talk to visitors about the support services on offer, including careers guidance, academic coaching, additional learning support, admissions, student welfare and financial support.

College Principal Dr Martin Sullivan (pictured) said: "Bookings for our Open Day on Saturday 15 October are going strong, so I urge learners and carers to book their tickets as soon as possible if they are interested in attending.

"Our teachers are experts in their fields and our colleagues from Higher Education can offer a helpful perspective for prospective learners too, so the event promises to be well worth attending."

Timed entry to this event will help to manage the number of people on campus to ensure a steady flow of visitors, rather than times of over-crowding that can lead to queues in some departments.

For this reason, no entry will be possible for those that turn up on the day without a booking.
