Future Faces committee member Nadia Johnstone-Smith (pictured) recently took part in the Birmingham Disability Festival, created by the Birmingham Disability Festival Committee (BDFC).

Ways for Wellbeing UK CIC co-ordinated the inaugural Birmingham Disability Festival, which took place at Birmingham City University. The event coincided with Disability Pride month which is celebrated in July.

The festival had a range of activities, accessible sports and showcased a range of speakers and disabled business owners, and was an opportunity to celebrate the talent and support available with the disability community.

Highlights of the Festival included dance performances from wheelchair-based Freewheelin and Cerebral Palsy West Midlands, dance from FABRIC, music from a local choir and Birmingham’s famous Night Owl set regular DJ Ben Love providing two DJ sets, with a live band in between his sets.

Speaking about the festival, Nadia said: “I was honoured to be one of the volunteers who welcomed over 500 attendees to Birmingham’s first Disability Festival. The event was an amazing opportunity to celebrate our diverse community and be part of creating accessible and inclusive spaces that celebrate our differences.”
