Free support available for businesses eyeing global expansion
A new programme has been designed for businesses trading across Birmingham and Black Country to help expand into international markets.
The Exporting Starts Here initiative is set to provide free expert support, workshops, and training to help businesses access new global opportunities, drive innovation, and enhance competitiveness.
It is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), and led by Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC).
The programme is tailored to the West Midlands, offering locally embedded services and support aligned with regional growth priorities.
Businesses based in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, or Wolverhampton, could be eligible for the Exporting Starts Here programme.
This initiative is open to businesses in high-growth sectors such as aerospace, electric vehicles, health-tech, logistics and distribution, professional and financial services, and e-commerce
West Midlands mayor Richard Parker said: “Helping local businesses step into international markets is key to building a strong economy and creating good jobs for local people.
“For many smaller firms, expanding abroad can be a springboard to success, giving them the chance to develop new products, boost competitiveness, and secure overseas customers.
“This programme provides the targeted support needed to make those first steps easier, paving the way for growth that benefits communities across the West Midlands.”
Tom Marren, of Coventry-based WOMAG – which now exports to the Middle East, Far East and Africa, said: “Exporting can bring major benefits to your business, but you can't do everything by yourself.
“If you ask for help and bring in support, it means you can move a lot more quickly when it comes to growing your overseas markets.”
Hemant Patel (pictured), GBCC international trade specialist said: “Exporting Starts Here is more than just a programme – it’s a launchpad for businesses in the West Midlands to thrive internationally, unlocking new markets and opportunities that drive sustainable growth and success.
“I’m proud to be part of such a meaningful initiative, supporting businesses in their journey toward global expansion.”
