Alwayse Engineering is bringing its IATA specification ball transfer unit to the Saudi Airport Exhibition (SAE).

The two-day SAE is being held between the 11-12 of November at Riyadh International Conference & Exhibition Centre (RICEC) with the Birmingham-based manufacturer making its debut at the show in the UK Pavilion.

The Alwayse Engineering stand will feature its 805 ball transfer unit that has been specifically developed for heavy-duty applications, such as air cargo handling.

The 805 units, available with a 30mm or 45mm load ball are a low-cost, easy-to-install solution that provide multi-directional 360o movement of even the heaviest containers, including ULDs, pallets and other heavy cargo.

Alwayse ball transfer units can be installed on floors, benches and workstations with the operator required to merely push the load across the ball-bearings with no need for power sources, forklift trucks or other robotic solutions – making them an ideal solution for air cargo handlers who place a premium on employee safety.

The low-profile units are formed from single piece steel body with multiple dirt exit holes to assist unit cleaning. The 805 also has a slotted base to allow for the escape of debris and are available in various materials, including carbon chrome, nylon and stainless steel for both internal and external use, with temperature ranges from -30oC to 200oC.

The 805 units are listed in the IATA specification and have undergone successful testing with numerous air cargo handlers, express couriers and military clients. The 805 ball transfer unit forms part of a trio of air cargo handling solutions available from Alwayse Engineering that includes the Flanged Unit for heavy load, high-impact areas and the Euro Unit that is ideal for ball unit and conveyor applications.

Dean Falconer, head of Global Partnerships at Alwayse Engineering, says the air cargo handling sector is a key focus for the company.

“We believe that ball transfer units are an ideal solution for air cargo, combining easy manoeuvrability with safety, at a price point that more expensive manual handling solutions cannot compete with.

“The 805 unit is regarded by many in the air cargo handling sector as their go-to option for materials handling due to the innovative nature of the solution. We are looking forward to taking the product to SAE 2024.”
