Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council have launched The Joint Local Health & Wellbeing Strategy (JLHWS), in order to understand the challenges and opportunities that local businesses face with their employee and customer wellbeing.

The Joint Local Health & Wellbeing Strategy (JLHWS) focuses on the key themes and plans to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone across the borough. It will include focussed work on the population groups that are at greater risk of poorer outcomes.

The strategy is high level and underpinned by their inequalities and prevention strategies.

The JLHWS has been developed by the SMBC public health team and has considered several other documents which have highlighted areas where they are doing well and areas where they need to make improvements.

These include the Story of Solihull, which describes the current population of Solihull, as well as the strengths, opportunities and challenges facing the borough. Their progress will be measured using the Solihull Local Outcomes Framework, and they have taken into consideration the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System 10 Year strategy.

The JLHWS, which is intended to run from 2024 to 2032, has six themes, five of which can be considered “across the life course” i.e. from maternity to end of life. The sixth theme focuses on improving mental health for people of all ages.

Councillor Ian Courts, Chair of Solihull’s Health and Wellbeing Board and Leader of Solihull Council, said: “I’d really encourage anyone who hasn’t yet done so to complete our short survey, and help shape the strategy.

“The Strategy aims to set out how we aim to support everyone in Solihull to live happier and healthier lives, as well as outlining our plans to reduce the inequalities that we know exist across the borough.”

The council would like to know:

  1. Is there anything we need to add to the JLHWS?
  2. What should be the top priorities for the JLHWS?

The draft strategy can be found here.
