Community programme brings joy to youngsters
A Birmingham-based community interest company (CIC) has been involved in delivering winter activities for young people aged four to 16-years-old.
5UP and its sister company 9UP have successfully delivered activities after receiving funding from Birmingham City Council and delivery partner StreetGames.
The CIC also worked in partnership with fellow Chamber member Birmingham Youth Sports Academy (BYSA).
5UP engaged with local martial art gyms around Birmingham in order to provide physical activities and enrichment programmes.
Free food and drinks were also provided for participants.
Teamworks Karting Birmingham was one the most popular activities enjoyed by the young participants - who were able to take part in karting and laser tag.
5UP catered for more than 350 young people per day at eight venues across Birmingham.
Ray Vince from delivery partner StreetGames said: “5UP was an active and effective supporter during the summer and winter of 2021 and is planning ahead for 2022.
“It has worked in partnerships and delivered across a number of Birmingham districts. Among others, these partnerships have included Holte School, West Midlands Police, NJB, Black Widow and Corefit Gyms.
“With locally known coaches and national champions in Muay Thai and other martial arts, young people have been attracted in their hundreds to opportunities they would not otherwise have been able to access.
“Food, activity and enrichment has nourished those who have taken part and their feedback shows a growing appetite for more.
“With the 2022 Games on the doorstep 5UP are well positioned to continue to support and reach even deeper into those underserved communities with most need. Planning for Easter 2022 has already begun. ”
