More than 20 schools from Birmingham participated in the Legacy Celebration, a variety of sports and physical activities aiming to break down accessibility barriers.

Hosted by Sport Birmingham, the primary objective of the Legacy Celebration was to break down the barriers that schools and children face in accessing sports both within and outside the school environment.

By providing a diverse range of sports, many children had the opportunity to try activities they had never experienced before. This initiative aimed to inspire a lifelong love for physical activity and promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

This was the first time Birmingham School Games held an inclusive school sports festival at the Alexander Stadium, and the day was filled with enthusiasm, energy, and the spirit of inclusion.

The event was sponsored by Play Innovation, who is renowned for being one of the most exciting global providers of outdoor play, sports equipment, and award-winning Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA).

Tom Mitchell, current Team GB Captain, Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallist, joined the students on the day.

Tom shared his inspiring journey as part of the Path to Paris initiative, the official youth engagement programme from Team GB and Paralympics GB.

The Legacy Celebration has provided a platform to enhance the city-wide offerings to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and strengthen relationships with partners, schools, and communities.

Mike Chamberlain (pictured), CEO of Sport Birmingham, said: "Together, we are creating a legacy of inclusivity and active living for all children in Birmingham.

“This resonates well with our charity's mission of improving lives through the power of sport and physical activity.”
