City schools recognised during leadership conference

The Birmingham Diocesan Board of Education hosted a leadership conference, honouring the commitment of schools to the community and their charitable involvements.

Over 100 school leaders and clergy attended Birmingham City Football Club, where the Bishop of Birmingham opened the conference.

During the conference three Bishop’s Awards were presented to schools who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to community and charitable involvement, including St Laurence Church Junior School Northfield, St John and St Peter’s CE Primary School, Ladywood and St Michael’s C of E Primary Academy, Bartley Green.

Poetry and inspiration were provided by Ceyon King, an upcoming poet originally from Handsworth.

Music was provided by the choir of St Matthew’s C of E Primary School, Nechells.

Keynote speakers at the event included Headteacher of the Year Dawn Ferdinand, and CEO of The Children’s Society, Mark Russell.
