An upcoming event focusing on innovation and growth across Greater Birmingham will give businesses an opportunity to engage with Councillor Sharon Thompson (pictured), the deputy leader of the Birmingham City Council.

The event will focus on driving innovation across Greater Birmingham and the Black Country and is hosted in partnership with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, Black Country Chamber of Commerce, and Crowe UK.

Taking place on 8 May, the event will run from 9.30am to 1pm at The Black Country House.

Innovation has been central to the economic success of the West Midlands, and with nearly £1m of investment from Innovate UK over the past decade, the region continues to be at the forefront of industrial and technological development.

As part of efforts to enhance productivity and drive economic growth, regional leaders are keen to work closely with businesses to harness innovation and commercialize new products and services.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from innovation experts on how businesses can modernise operations, adopt industry-leading strategies, and access support from Innovate UK and local universities.

The event also provides:

  • Exclusive insights from Councillor Thompson on the region’s innovation-led growth strategy.
  • Information on how businesses can access support to develop new products, streamline operations, and drive revenue.
  • Success stories from businesses that have worked with Innovate UK and local universities.

Raj Kandola, director of external affairs at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Driving innovation is key to unlocking growth and prosperity across Greater Birmingham and the Black Country.

“This event offers a fantastic opportunity for businesses to engage with key stakeholders, gain expert insights, and learn how they can leverage support from leading institutions such as Innovate UK, Birmingham City University, and Aston University.

“By fostering collaboration between industry and academia, we can help businesses modernise, scale, and stay ahead in an increasingly competitive landscape.

“It’s also a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from Councillor Thompson on plans to unlock growth and the importance of driving innovation.
