Charity urges businesses to do their bit to help those in crisis this Christmas
A video campaign designed to help a charity supporting those in crisis at Christmas has been launched – and businesses are being urged to dig deep for the cause.
Burton-based communications and PR consultancy, MIH (which stands for ‘Make It Happen’), has offered a pro bono package of help to YMCA Burton in the shape of a 12-day social media video campaign, running up until Christmas Eve. The hard-hitting short films aim to shine a light on the issue of homelessness in Burton and beyond, as well as inform people about what they can do to help.
YMCA Burton requires around £2 million every year just to run its life-changing services in the Burton area alone and needs to raise £30,000 by 31 December to provide the essential help needed this Christmas.
Jo Yeaman, managing director at MIH, said: “We love working with people who share our passion for making a positive difference to the community. It’s part of our DNA here at MIH and one of the reasons why we’ve been so inspired by YMCA Burton and the breadth of support it offers to those less fortunate.
“This year, the UK will spend an estimated £88.3 billion on Christmas. So, in the grand scheme of things, raising £30,000 should be very achievable with the support of the amazing business community in this area.
“We would strongly urge people to get behind the #YMCAChristmasGiving campaign and do something amazing for those in need this Christmas. Every pound donated really does make a difference.”
The YMCA is an independent charity committed to helping people at times of need, regardless of their gender, race, ability or faith. It provides a supportive and safe accommodation environment for those who are homeless, as well as practical and emotional support so that people can address their past and learn practical skills for the future.
It also runs a food bank issuing emergency supplies to those in crisis, as well as four stores providing affordable furniture for families across Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
Donating to the YMCA is easy and takes just a few seconds. Simply text YMCA BURTON, followed by the amount you wish to give (5, 10, 20 and so on), to 70085. All donations are in GBP. More information about how to donate is available online HERE.
