Sport Birmingham has announced it will host their inaugural Girls of Birmingham event later this year.

Taking place on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, the flagship event is a city-wide celebration of sport and physical activity, designed to inspire the next generation of young women to get active, build confidence, and feel empowered.

Set against the backdrop of Alexander Stadium, the event will bring together Year 7 girls from over 30 secondary schools across the city.

Taking place between 10am and 2.30pm, the day will be filled with inclusive and engaging activities led by a diverse range of local sport and physical activity organisations.

The aim of Girls of Birmingham is to break down barriers, promote positive relationships, and provide a supportive, empowering environment where girls can experience the joy of being active.

Throughout the day, participants will engage in a variety of activity stations, enjoy talks from  female role models and take part in workshops designed to strengthen connections between schools, community groups, and local organisations.

Lauren Davies (pictured), education development manager at Sport Birmingham, commented: “As part of the Commonwealth Games legacy, this event will unite over 400 children and more than 30 local organisations at Alexander Stadium, fostering collaboration among our partners to inspire the next generation to embrace an active lifestyle in their schools and communities – ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to participate and thrive.”

Sport Birmingham is calling on businesses and organisations across the city to get involved - as sponsors, facilitators, guest speakers or supporters offering in-kind contributions or professional expertise.

Organisations with a focus on women’s health, fitness, and wellbeing are particularly encouraged to participate.

Opportunities for involvement range from hosting wellbeing stalls or interactive sessions, to providing resources or merchandise that contribute to the event’s aims.
