Championing diversity and inclusivity- Ade Larigo
Written by Agency Connection..
Ade Larigo's journey from childhood trauma to her current role in social work has shaped her profound dedication to improving the adoption and fostering system in the UK. Inspired by her experiences in Nigeria and driven by a desire for diversity and inclusivity, Ade (pictured) founded Agency Connection.
Recognising the need for diverse representation on adoption and fostering panels, Agency Connection challenges the status quo. Ade's first-hand observations revealed how the absence of cultural diversity could overlook the crucial needs of children in care when approving families to care for them. This in turn helps adoption and fostering agencies to attract dedicated carers and ensure every child's unique needs are considered.
Agency Connection's collaboration with the National Adoption Strategy and its ground-breaking research has led to strategic recommendations that are hopeful to shape the future of panel diversity. Ade's work has not only influenced individual panels but has also reached legislative levels, with her being invited as an expert witness in front of a House of Lords Committee to advocate for inclusivity in adoption laws.
Agency Connection is due to unveil a dynamic jobs board and establish a nurturing community for panel members, aimed at fostering mentorship, support, and the shared wisdom necessary to enrich the adoption and fostering process with diverse perspectives.
Ade Larigo's dedication to this cause has been recognised far and wide. She was honoured as the Thought Leader of the Year by the Baton Awards, a testament to her influence and innovative approach.
Ade is a passionate advocate for women and girls, dedicating a portion of her time to supporting others in this vital area. As a council member for the esteemed global publication, Ziva Voices, she contributes to amplifying women's voices worldwide. Ade is also commitment to championing gender equality and has become UN Women UK delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68).
