Chamber’s Get Ready 2 Supply event sheds light on negotiation skills
The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) delivered a workshop on Negotiating with Confidence on Tuesday, as part of the ongoing Get Ready 2 Supply programme.
Get Ready 2 Supply exists to help SMEs in East Birmingham and North Solihull access new contracting opportunities with larger organisations across the region.
This programme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered by the Chambers in partnership with business support specialists Newable.
This dynamic and engaging event equipped firms with essential negotiation skills and the confidence, strategies, and knowledge to break through barriers and achieve win-win outcomes with prospective buyers.
The event featured an introduction from Bill Welch, GBCC innovation and growth advisor, followed by a case study from Richard Pettiford, business development director at Food Division on their experience winning contracts with large buyers.
Speaker Phillip Brown, Founder and Director at the Negotiation Club, then delivered a practical workshop which focused on practicing different negotiation techniques. Participants engaged in fast-paced, structured negotiations using his Negotiation Cards to facilitate hands-on practice, with emphasis on improvement through action, reflection, and feedback.
Emily Stubbs, Head of Policy at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce said: “This event was an excellent opportunity to support East Birmingham and Solihull businesses in the developing the skills needed to successfully win and negotiate contracts with the region's largest firms.
“We'd like to extend our thanks to Phillip for leading a great session, offering real-world insights and simulating the competitive environment firms are operating in to allow delegates to practice their skills.
“We look forward to confirming the details of further Get Ready 2 Supply events shortly, and encourage anyone interested in the programme in the meantime to register for the programme to access bespoke support to win new contracts from our expert advisors.”
