Members of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce committee have been helping school pupils prepare for the world of work by conducting mock interviews.

President Naeem Arif of United Carpets and committee member Dennis Kennedy of Inspire Activity were among a group of business leaders who conducted mock interviews with students from St Edmund Campion Catholic School.

The initiative provided opportunities to talk to business owners and professionals and learn about possible career choices.

The mock interviews were organised by the Royal Sutton Chamber’s past president Katie Hale, who is an enterprise advisor for the school.

Naeem Arif said: “I have to say the day was very rewarding, getting to hear from a dozen students, with some very bright ideas and attitudes to how they will contribute to our society over the next 20 years.

“Whilst I had expected a lot of talk about social media, I was very pleased to see several students talking about careers in STEM. Each student put together a CV and pitched to us about why we should employ them.

“The Royal Sutton Coldfield Chamber will always endeavour to support initiatives like this where we can.

“It was an absolute pleasure, based on the students that we got to meet and speak to and I look forward to seeing their careers develop.”
