A Cannock-based business has successfully secured a £100,000 grant to enhance its energy efficiency and is urging other local businesses to take advantage of the scheme.

Laser Process has applied to the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS), managed by Staffordshire County Council in partnership with Business Growth West Midlands.

This initiative aims to assist businesses in reducing their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Based in the Midlands for over 30 years, Laser Process possesses extensive technical expertise and experience in managing a wide range of materials essential for your daily operations.

Their capabilities include working with various grades of mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, and brass.

As an energy-intensive business, Laser Process applied to BEAS to reduce its operation costs.

Adrian Edwards, group special projects manager at Sirius A Corporation, who has been working closely with Laser Process, said: “We saw an advert for the BEAS scheme and decided to apply.

“After our application was approved, we received a free energy assessment which provided us with several recommendations to make our business more energy efficient. We decided to implement these changes and applied for the full £100,000 funding.

“We are now installing a Press Brake/Compressor and Electric Forklift Trucks. By switching to a variable-speed compressor, we will only use the air required, reducing our energy bills.

2Replacing our LPG Forklift Trucks with Electric Trucks will also reduce our carbon footprint, making us a greener business.

“We highly recommend the BEAS programme to any business considering a move towards greater sustainability.”

Business Energy Advice Service programme offers businesses financial support to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the scheme, businesses can get a free energy assessment, free carbon literacy training, and a grant of up to £100,000 to make sustainable changes.

Businesses may also be eligible for an interest-free loan of between £5,000 and £200,000, repayable within two years.

To be eligible to apply, your business must be classified as a small-to-medium enterprise, be responsible for its energy bills, and operate from a commercial address (not residential).

BEAS is being delivered by the WMCA and DESNZ through Business Growth West Midlands in partnership with Aston University, Coventry City Council, Black Country Industrial Cluster, Birmingham City Council, Warwickshire County Council, Staffordshire County Council, Worcestershire County Council, and Pro Enviro.
