John Widdowson (pictured) has officially become Burton Albion Community Trust’s new head of community following his departure from Wrexham AFC.

John returned to the club on an interim basis in January after Will Evans stepped down from the role due to personal reasons.

John, who was Matt’s Hancock’s deputy for five years, says he is delighted to be back at the club he knows so well and is looking to ensure the continuation of brilliant work the charity does in the community.

He said; "When I returned to the Burton Albion Family in January I was very excited about returning to BACT. I can't thank the staff, volunteers and our partners enough for the warm welcome I received.

"I am very proud to have been appointed Head of Community of my home town club, a club which is extremely proud to be at the heart of its community.

"My thanks go to Chairman Ben Robinson and the BACT Board of Trustees for the faith they have placed in me to now lead this amazing organisation.

Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson MBE DL said: “I am delighted that John has chosen to return to Burton Albion.

“He already knows the club extremely well and understands how supporting the community is at the heart of everything we do.

“We are very proud of all that our charitable arm continues to achieve, and we believe that John is the right man to continue taking it from strength to strength.”

BACT chairman Phil Pusey, said: "I am delighted that we have John as our permanent Head of Community, and feel we have worked effectively together during his time as Interim.

“John has a strong knowledge of the values and workings of Burton Albion, with the bonus of additional experience gained during his time at Wrexham AFC.

“I look forward to continuing to work with him as Chair of Trustees, ensuring he has the support he needs to keep Burton Albion Community Trust at the heart of our community providing support to so many local people."
