Burton Albion Football Club has implemented a Community Hero Award, with honorary chairman Ben Robinson MBE DL (pictured) being its first recipient.

The award recognises those individuals who have gone above and beyond to make significant contributions to their local community.

The award will be presented to Mr Robinson prior to kick-off at Saturday’s game against Lincoln City.

Each home game during the 2024/25 Sky Bet League One season will see one deserved individual receive recognition for the award, which will be presented by a local community partner.

Pirelli will present the award to Honorary Chairman Robinson and will be represented by Tony Di Gravio, Chief Technical Officer for the UK.

Mr Robinson’s tenure at Burton Albion spanned nearly 40 years, during which he oversaw significant milestones, including the construction of the Pirelli Stadium and the club’s promotion to the English Football League.

Beyond football, Robinson’s impact on the community is profound. He played a crucial role in establishing the Burton Albion Community Trust, which has since become one of the leading football charities in England.

As well as positioning Burton Albion as a community-focused club and championing the work of the Trust, Ben is chairman of the Consolidated Charity of Burton and President of the YMCA and the Staffordshire Playing Fields Association.

He is a trustee and director at the Burton Addiction Centre. In 2019 he was awarded an MBE for his charity work and impact on the community.

A club statement said: “Ben Robinson MBE DL, our long-serving chairman and previous owner of Burton Albion FC, is a prime example of a person deserving of this award. His commitment to the club and the local area is evident through his numerous contributions and initiatives.

“Robinson’s efforts have not only elevated Burton Albion FC but also significantly enhanced the lives of many residents in Burton upon Trent. His unwavering support for the Trust and his commitment to the community have left a legacy that will live on within our community and club forever.”
