Brewers defenders inspire youngsters at primary school
Burton Albion defenders Terence Vancooten and Dylan Williams delighted Year 2 pupils at Rykneld Primary School by attending a special PE lesson focused on fundamental skills.
The appearance saw the two professional footballers fully immersed in the Key Stage 1 PE session, which centred on building core skills such as coordination, balance, and teamwork.
Both players actively participated in drills and games, offering encouragement and sharing tips with the enthusiastic youngsters.
Vancooten and Williams, who are both key figures in Burton Albion’s defence, demonstrated football techniques, helped set up fun challenges, and even joined in with some friendly competition, much to the excitement of the children.
The hands-on session was aimed at promoting physical education in a fun and interactive way, giving the pupils a memorable experience.
In addition to taking part in the PE activities, the players held a Q&A session with the Year 2 students.
The children eagerly asked questions ranging from how the players started their football journeys to what it takes to become a professional athlete. Vancooten and Williams provided insightful and inspirational answers, emphasizing the importance of hard work, staying active, and never giving up on dreams.
Terence Vancooten said: "It’s always great to give back to the community, especially to young children who are just starting to enjoy sports. It’s important to encourage them to stay active and have fun with it."
Dylan Williams added: "The kids had fantastic energy, and it was brilliant to see them so engaged. Hopefully, we’ve helped inspire some of the next generation of footballers!"
This visit is part of Burton Albion’s ongoing outreach initiative, aimed at fostering a love for football and sportsmanship within the local community. The club hopes to continue inspiring young fans and nurturing their physical and mental well-being through such valuable experiences.
