Birmingham could be at the forefront of a social media revolution - thanks to the groundbreaking vision of local tech prodigy John Tsopanis.

With a string of accolades under his belt - including victories in five deep tech Web3 hackathons in just three years - Tsopanis has worked on pioneering Web3, AI, crypto, NFT, and metaverse solutions for world-renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, Nike, Estee Lauder, and Chelsea FC.

Now, he’s bringing his expertise and passion back to his hometown to develop a social network that, he says, will redefine how people connect online.

Bettr is a next-generation social platform that its creators say is designed to replace Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter by solving their most pressing issues.

The platform ID verifies all users and rewards them for the value of their data.

Bettr says its mission is to tackle issues of mental health, protect young people and safeguard the UK from election interference by hostile foreign powers.

Bettr is also gearing up to launch immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences that showcase Birmingham’s rich connections to the world.

One of the first projects will twin the iconic BT Tower with Dubai’s Burj Khalif, utilising the power of AI.

Similarly, Aston Villa’s iconic Villa Park stadium will be twinned with its owner’s US equivalent, the Milwaukee Bucks, of the National Basketball League.

Bettr is based at STEAMHouse, part of Birmingham City University, and is also part of Eagle Labs, funded by Barclays.

John (pictured) said: “The future of immersive content, brand engagement, and social media is undeniably intertwined with deep tech, mixed reality, and AI.

“We have a tremendous opportunity to build a more creatively diverse, equitable, and engaging world, where brands can forge deeper connections with their audiences through meaningful mixed reality experiences.

“This is particularly crucial for younger and more discerning demographics. And it's no longer just the realm of high-luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Estee Lauder, and Nike.

“The cost of deploying this technology has decreased dramatically – by over 90 per cent in the past couple of years – making it accessible to anyone with imagination and ambition.

“For brands that haven't yet embraced these technologies, the time to commit is now.

“The potential for transformative growth and engagement is immense, and Birmingham is poised to be at the forefront of this exciting evolution.”

Bettr will soon host an exclusive event delving into the past five years of advancements in crypto, NFTs, AI, and metaverse technologies while exploring the implications of quantum computing for future innovations.
