Roses are usually red, violets are blue ... but in Birmingham’s biggest flower store, those Valentine’s Day roses can also be in rainbow colours!

Naj & Sam Flowers has been operating from the base of the striking Jubilee Centre at the lower end of Pershore Street, in the Southside Business Improvement District of Birmingham city centre, for more than 16 years.

And with the Southside BID area being home of the city’s theatre land and the Gay Village, it means the company proudly supplies ‘rainbow roses’ imported from Ecuador.

Customers visiting Naj & Sam Flowers can choose roses of many other colours too from their huge stock of flowers, plus everything from pampas grass to soft toys, wicker baskets, cards, candles and florist tapes needed to create displays, including

Owner Mohammad ‘Naj’ Najeeb has been working all hours to make sure that all of his customers will get what they want in time for Valentine’s Day on Friday, 14 February – as well as over the weekend.

Naj said: “Valentine’s is a fantastic time of the year.

“We’re really busy and, of course, that means red roses – we sell them by the thousand.

“A lot of people do tend to forget it’s Valentine’s Day, so we tend to have a good day the next day, too! We are predominantly wholesale, but we do a bit of retail as well. It’s mainly florists, street traders and people who do it online as well – we cater for all of those.

“Here in Southside we are so central with access from all parts of the city, so this is a great spot and we’ve been here for 16 or 17 years now. We are really busy for Christmas, busy for Valentine’s and, of course, Mother’s Day and Easter.

“For the rest of the year there’s general trade, including funerals, and the wedding season through the summer, so there’s always something all of the time, which is great.”

Julia Robinson, of Southside District, said: “It's a real joy to have Naj & Sam Flowers on Southside, as they are literally responsible for sending love and best wishes across the city!”
