Birmingham Law Society launches alternative dinner for junior lawyers
Birmingham Law Society (BLS) has launched its Alternative Dinner, sponsored by Verify365, BCL Legal and St Ives Chambers.
Returning for 2024, the Alternative Dinner, is particularly aimed at aspiring and junior lawyers who may not have always had an opportunity to attend the BLS formal dinners.
Bringing together more than 100 guests at Aston Villa FC on Thursday, 12 September from 7pm, the dinner will be a chance for young professionals to build their networks and gain confidence.
The event will start with a drinks reception followed by a three-course meal, with special guest speakers and a DJ.
The guest speakers of the event are Shereen Johal, BLS Solicitor of the Year 2024 and Marissa Jacquet-Smoothy, BLS Partner of the Year 2024.
Both of the speakers won awards at the 2024 Legal Awards and will talk about their journeys, how they’ve built their confidence and worked towards their goals including Marissa's path to partnership at a young age.
Alice Kinder, president of the Birmingham Law Society said: “I am delighted that the Alternative Dinner will be returning for 2024. One of the key themes of my Presidential Year has been opportunity, both in terms of providing opportunities to access and progress in the Birmingham legal profession and also to get involved in Birmingham Law Society.
“I hope that the Alternative Dinner will facilitate networking and development opportunities for aspiring and junior lawyers who may not have had the chance to attend a formal dinner.”
The event is open to members and non-members of Birmingham Law Society while guests outside the legal sector is also welcomed.
