Birmingham Cathedral seeks local voices for new governance committee
Birmingham Cathedral is reaching out to the local community to recruit passionate individuals to join its newly established Nominations Committee.
This opportunity is part of the Cathedral’s efforts to enhance its governance structure and ensure its leadership reflects the diverse congregations and communities it serves.
The committee will support the Chapter, the governing body of the Cathedral, by conducting skills and knowledge reviews, recommending appointments, and championing diversity in governance.
The creation of the Nominations Committee follows a significant milestone for Birmingham Cathedral.
In January 2024, after over 300 years as a church and 114 years as a cathedral, it joined every other English cathedral in registering as a charity. This transition involved a thorough review of the Cathedral’s constitution and statutes.
Members of the new committee will be expected to attend three meetings a year, held at the Cathedral.
The Nominations Committee’s work will lay the foundation for the Cathedral’s future. In 2025, the Chapter will review its strategic plan, preparing for the launch of a new 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
